3 more weeks to enter the contest! :excited:

And guess what? Now you can win a subscription, thanx to :iconblaumohn: ! :boogie:

OK, so a few words about the contest:

Title: Black and white vision
Sub-categories:
:bulletwhite: Subtle tones in a grayscale world -- entries: [link]
:bulletblack: United at the extremes -- entries: [link]

I would like to explain all these sentences in detail so that hopefully it is inspiring! Please read:

:bulletwhite: Black and white vision, the general title of the contest.
Clearly, it's a contest about black and white abstract photography.
'Vision' refers to black and white itself. Personally, when I shoot b/w I also think in b/w - I see tones and colors as they would turn out in b/w etc. So if you don't have that black and white vision try to get one while shooting for that contest!
'Vision' also refers to abstractionism in photography: not looking at the informative side of the surrounding objects, but at its shapes and with abstract photography it is getting to the extreme by removing any informative aspect from your picture - to leave only an aesthetic quality.

:bulletblack: Subtle tones in a grayscale world
It is often considered that a good black and white photograph should have as many various tones in it as possible. So if you choose to submit to that category make sure that you have rich variety of tones in your photographs. Contrast is one think, but sometimes having mainly extreme black and white in a shot is less attractive than having a lot of tones in the middle.

:bulletwhite: United at the extremes
We logically come to the opposite category: photographs that present mainly extreme black and whites. Photographs that still have subtle tones but overall present just one tone also go into that category.
One may think that extreme contrast is meant to brake unity of a picture. However, extremes may be united by composition - so that no element can be removed from your photograph! That's what the word 'united' refers to.

:target: Here are the rules:
- you must be a member to enter the contest (simply watch us & place our icon on your profile page)
- two photographs/member, one/category: please note us with a THUMB of your deviation (links will not be accepted), subject: "contest submission" and state in what category you submit each photograph (Subtle tones in a grayscale world or United at the extremes)
- it must be your own work*
- the deviations do not need to be new
- black and white abstract photography only**
- deadline: July 10.

*if you do not conform to this rule you will be disqualified without the possibility to re-enter the contest
**Now, to avoid confusion, I would like to say that you may find some deviations that apparently do not correspond to that definition. You may find pictures that are not really abstract, or are rather photomanipulations. That's my fault, I didn't pay close attention to all the submissions, and now I just can't disqualify them, but they can resubmit if they want (and are strongly encouraged to do so). Judges will pay closer attention to details.

:trophy: Very well, now what about prizes?
There will be 3 winners: one in each category chosen by judges (see below) and one overall winner voted through notes during the week after the deadline.

The overall winner will receive:
1 month subscription from *Blaumohn

All 3 will receive:

Oh.... win a subscription... when I read "win a sub" I was about to get on the phone to a pool company so I would have somewhere to store my nascent navy of doom! ;)

If you want to define "abstract" you could start with using my mind as a model. ;)

Hmmm I tried to make mine abstract. Some of these just look like landscapes though. (: There are some wicked awesome entries too. :la:

A few gems here, thanks. A lot of the entries are not exactly what I'd classify as abstract though.

I know this is subjective, but maybe for future competitions and submissions, they would have to go through a round of screening or something and if a certain judge can detect what it is instantly, then it should not really be classified as abstract, but then again, highly subjective. Just an idea. :)
